Elden Ring, From Software's latest 'Souls-like' title, has received much acclaim since its release. However, many players have encountered a problem when attempting to recover lost runes after death.

Unless you're a world-class speed runner, dying in Elden Ring is pretty much inevitable. This is particularly true when fighting bosses.

Sacrificial Twigs

There are plenty of Talismans in Elden Ring that players can equip to enhance a variety of Stats, but one of the more useful is called the Sacrificial Twig. This talisman is not only expensive, costing around 3,000 runes to acquire, but it also prevents the player from losing their elden ring runes upon death.

In a game that feels like it was designed to punish Tarnished for dying often, this simple yet effective item might just make the difference between frustration and success. However, players should note that the twig is a single-use item.

Players can find a Sacrificial Twig in several locations throughout the Lands Between, including from the warden of Castle Morne, Edgar. It is also possible to buy one from certain merchants, though it will still cost a substantial amount of runes. Upon equipping it, whenever the player dies and respawns at a Site of Grace or Stake of Marika, they will receive a prompt asking them if they would like to recover their runes.

Great Runes

There are several Great elden ring runes, each granting powerful buffs when equipped. However, acquiring them requires a bit of a trick. Great Runes can only be retrieved by visiting their respective Divine Towers, a location mentioned in the respective rune's description.

Once the player reaches the Divine Tower, they will need to Activate the Great Rune before it can provide benefits. This is a rather involved process, and it also prevents players from simply leaving the boss arena, as doing so will forfeit any Great Runes that they've yet to retrieve.

Fortunately, there is a workaround for this issue. A player can equip a Sacrificial Twig, which acts as a Talisman and prevents them from losing any runes upon death, though this item is limited to one use. There's also a mod called Retrieve Runes, which functions similarly to the Sacrificial Twig but offers immediate Rune recovery without using a Talisman Slot. Both of these items are quite rare and can only be found in a single encounter, so they're not a guaranteed solution to losing elden ring runes after death.

Retrieve Runes Mod

Some players have found themselves losing a significant amount of runes when they die in Elden Ring. While this is intended to be a challenging feature that makes you play the game with caution, it can be frustrating to watch hundreds of runes disappear from your inventory after death.

However, there is a way to prevent this from happening. One option is to use the Sacrificial Twig item, which can be equipped as a Talisman to prevent the loss of runes on death. This is only a temporary solution, though, and it will break on death.
